Demi Lovato’s Motivation For Her Favorite Workout Is All the Fitspo We Need

We’re big proponents of all the benefits of exercise that go beyond aesthetics: getting stronger, feel-good endorphins, more energy, better sleep — the list goes on. And while many people sign up for an intense workout class or hit the gym in order to look good, feeling good (and improving your overall health) is much more important.

No one knows that better than Demi Lovato. “My favorite part about fitness is the way you feel afterwards,” she told POPSUGAR last year. The “Sorry Not Sorry” singer has been posting sexy bikini selfies from her trip to Bora Bora, but in her latest photo, she not only feels sexy — she feels “high on life.”

“I’m sitting at the gym post jiu jitsu feeling high on life and drinking my post workout shake,” she wrote in her caption. “I’m sweaty and not looking this glamorous right now but fuck I feel awesome and posting this feels empowering because I like this pic where I feel sexy and I can also defend myself from anyone that ever tries to attack me. Any size, any shape, any gender. “

It’s not just the post-workout vibes that make her feel strong — the skills she’s learned doing martial arts will help her protect herself, which is vital as someone who is so high-profile.

“I have security but in the moments I’m alone I feel confident (no pun intended) that I can hold my own against an attacker and hope everyone finds something they become as passionate about as I feel about jiu jitsu,” she wrote.

Demi has been taking jiu-jitsu for years and has shown off her MMA skills on Instagram. Her passion for jiu-jitsu is proof that exercise shouldn’t be to fit some type of ideal body image; you should do something that makes you feel strong and empowered and gives you that post-workout high.
